RENZ MASTERBIND NEWS
New larger 3:1 pitch wire size now available from RENZ

Have you ever had a document that was just a little too big to fit into the largest 3:1 pitch wire size of 14.3mm?

Well RENZ have now made a larger size in 3:1 pitch. This means you can still use your 3:1 pitch wire binding machine for that thicker document.

Standard 3:1 pitch wire normally stops at 14.3mm or a 12 mm thick book block - which is about 110 pages of standard 80gsm paper plus covers. The new 16mm wire means you can now bind up to 120 pages.

Remember we also offer 2:1 pitch machines and wire that bind all the way up to 38mm thickness and that 16mm wire was always available in 2:1 pitch.

Confused? Read our FAQs below to understand more about wire sizes and pitch. We stock Australia's largest range of binding wire equipment and consumable options. Feel free to call and ask for help.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is wire pitch?

A: The pitch is the hole pattern punched into the paper through which the wire is inserted to close around the document to bind it. The industry standard pitch is 3:1 pitch for wire sizes up to 14.3mm and then 2:1 pitch for 16mm through to 38mm. This is the professional standard used by trade binderies using automated equipment.

Q: What does 3:1 and 2:1 mean when referring to pitch?

A: 3:1 means that there are 3 punched holes per inch along the binding edge of the document and 2:1 means there are two holes per inch.

Q: Why is it necessary to have different pitches at all?

A:  Historically wire binding was developed for automated equipment in professional trade binderies. It was necessary to have thicker, stronger wire for larger documents. This meant that the holes needed to be larger and spaced out further so that wire could be inserted at high speeds through these thicker documents on automated equipment.

In more recent times office machines have been developed that offer this same professional binding system on a desktop machine. Therefore the same professional standards have been adopted.

Q: Is it possible to get an office machine that can bind all wire sizes?

A: Yes. RENZ have developed Onepitch(r) wire that is basically 2:1 pitch wire usually only available in larger sizes, in small diameters as well. So we have taken part of the existing industry standard, 2:1 pitch, and offered it over the complete wire size range down to 6.9mm. Ask for details of the full RENZ Onepitch(r)  range.

Onepitch(r) is a full range of wire sizes from 6.9mm to 38mm in one convenient pitch which means you can use one desktop machine for all size documents.
